Michelle is no stranger to the stage, having performed since she was old enough to hold a microphone! During her school days, she was involved in seasonal concerts, music festivals and her church choir – accepting any opportunity to sing solo. Already, the family collaboration was shining through as many of these performances were under the direction of her father, Ray who was teaching high school and leading the church choirs at the time.
Attending Memorial University brought Michelle the chance to join the Festival Choir and continue her involvement in choral singing. It was at this time that Michelle discovered the barbershop style of singing. Joining the group Newfound Sound, a ladies barbershop chorus, led to the formation of Accent – a quartet that Michelle now leads. Accent has achieved great success in Atlantic province competition, placing first two years in a row and moving on to compete at the international level.
Michelle is never far from her Irish/Newfoundland roots however, and cherishes every experience with the Walsh Family band. The natural harmonies that are produces when a family entertains are very rewarding to her, as they are for the audiences. With a warm and experienced stage presence, she is easily spotted on stage entertaining young and old with her distinct voice and personality.
